Loving yourself can seem like a selfish thing to do, but in actuality it is the most selfless thing because when you love yourself you allow yourself to love others more fully and completely.
A mistake so many people make is that they believe that in order to be loveable, or to love themselves, they must be perfect and have all the desired traits and qualities they are striving for. But if we look to Heavenly Father and the Savior as examples of loving us, they love us exactly where we are. They are not withholding love until we reach a certain level or meet specific criteria. Their love for us is always and never ending, the same should be true for how we love ourselves.
In today’s episode, Heather and LeAnn Austin dive into the importance of having unconditional love for ourselves, what that looks like, and how we can strive to do it.
- So many of us have very negative self-talk. We often talk to ourselves in a way we would never talk to others.
- We know the importance of loving God and others but we often forget the equally important commandment to love ourselves.
- Love is a feeling we create ourselves. It doesn’t come from others. It’s actually impossible to get it from others.
- In following the things we like and love to do is how we help others around us. It’s how we do the work we are meant to do while here on earth.
The LOVE acronym:
L: Light – remember to turn the light on and tell yourself one thing you love about you.
O: Open – be open to figuring out what you like to do.
V: Value – you are always 100% valuable no matter what.
E: Empower – how am I aware and lovingly accepting of where I’m at right now?
*We are commanded to love because love is the best emotion to feel.
How do you talk to yourself? What would change if you talked to yourself from a place of unconditional love for yourself almost as if you were talking to a child?
Using the “LOVE” acronym, how can you bring more light into your life, be more open with your heart to loving yourself, value who you are, and empower yourself with being aware and accepting of what is going on around you?
How would your life change if you just gave yourself permission to like and love yourself?
